Random Access Memories

Well, well, well. What have we got here?

I am really swamped these days, so I don't have much time to update the blog. Nonetheless, the release of Random Access Memories is a such a big event, that I've decided to be up-to-date at least this one time. Here's my post from under the AP.net review. It doesn't quite embrace the essence of the album, but for now, it's all I can do.

First of all, I don't like electronic/dance music at all. I don't even like Discovery. These things just aren't for me. However, I loved Tron: Legacy soundtrack (I do listen to a lot of film music) and I still spin it fairly often. I even enjoyed the electronic freak-outs such as Derezzed...

...and I have to say, Random Access Memories is a fantastic and groundbreaking record. It's jazzy sometimes, on other occasions it sounds like Dark Side of the Moon, the clean production reminds of Rumours and other great records from the seventies, but at the same it's very contemporary, even futuristic, and yet personal. Though it may seem distant at first, it certainly doesn't lack heart. And if there was one single word to describe the whole album, it would be "timeless".

For me, it's this year's Hurry Up We're Dreaming or The Suburbs, highly accomplished piece of work made with great ambition and incredible (inhuman?) precision. Nevertheless, it took me several  listens getting into, but it was definitely worth it. Favourite songs? I really can't pick a few. Although there is one that stands above them all. Giorgio by Moroder is probably the defining and most quintessential track on the album. 

My copy of Random Access Memories is already on its way from Amazon. That's how much I like it. Honestly, I didn't see this coming, like, at all. Do yourself a favour, don't hesitate a moment and dive right in.

Spacebrother (Jared Piccone from Innerpartysystem), Shaun Lopez (†††) and STV (Stevie Aiello from Monty Are I) collaborated on a track called "The Antidote." You can check the music video below and download the song here. Its better than nothing, I guess, while Innerpartysystem are on their indefinite hiatus. Thoughts?

Well, there's never enough of Sleeping At Last. The “8-Bits“ EP features 1 song from each of their records, transformed into retro Nintendo-style video game music and you can download it for free. Pretty cool.

A message from InnerPartySystem

"We find ourselves struggling to find the right way to start this statement to you all. Maybe a clever anecdote, or short story with some witty but true moral is in order? Nah, lets just stick to the facts. You all have been beyond amazing to us, and you deserve nothing less than the honest truth.

innerpartysystem is going on indefinite hiatus. We aren't breaking up nor do we hate each other. As a matter of fact, we are all great friends. BROTHERS. Our experiences with this band and the people we've met over the past 6 years have shaped us into who we are today. We will without a doubt look back on these times with nothing but positive thoughts and feelings.

While we will always treasure our time as innerpartysystem, we as individuals have chosen a path different from the one the band originally set out on. We can't stress enough that this is a very positive move for us. As we've grown, we want to move on to new projects that keep us excited about making music. Such is life. We promise, there will be music coming from all 3 of us separately, at some point.

So, with that being said, here's some facts...

Will there be a last show(s)? Of course! We want this send off to be a party! We are playing August 26th at Building 24 in Reading, a special outdoor show in Hoboken on August 27th, and we're making a trip out west to see our friends in Denver at the Bluebird Theatre on the 28th.

Can I cop any IPS swag at a super sweet discounted price? Absolutely. There will be a mega indefinite hiatus sale at both our US and UK merch stores starting early next week.

"Indefinite Hiatus"? What the hell does that even mean? It means we are taking a break from Innerpartysystem. Beyond that we don't really know.

What can I say? I loved this band, was expecting their new album soon, I'm really bummed right now. They could and should have been huge. Gonna miss them, although I will certainly keep an eye on their future projects.

The Avalanches

I don't know if anyone of you is familiar with this band, I just discovered them today thanks to a friend of mine. They're an Australian electronic music group, who released just one album, Since I Left You, in 2000 to huge critical acclaim.

This music video is the weirdest thing I've seen in some time, but I love it...

It certainly won't fit everyone but I honestly think that Tron: Legacy is a great movie. The most remarkable thing about it is the combination of dazzling visuals and perfectly fitting music. It's definitely hard to say which of those two elements is dominant here. Daft Punk blended orchestral and electronic music in order to create a unique movie score and delivered one of the most captivating listens in 2010.

As you know, I love synthpop, so I also like indie music with electronic sounds, for example, "Black Room (before Called Lorraine", "IAMX", "Empire Of The Sun", "Emmon" "Northern Kind," "Shiny Toy Guns", "The Rosebuds" ...
